The story of YWAM goes back to when a young man called Loren Cunningham got a vision from God about young people going to all the continents, sharing the good news about Jesus and helping people in need.
Youth With A Mission was born!
When Anders & Sara Carlsson did the DTS in Colombia in 2004 they got a hold of that vision and God called them back their home country Sweden to start a new base there. After some years of serving and learning they pioneered a base in Linköping together with a team in 2008. They started up in a former office building and they had to do some work in order to turn into a home!
The vision that God gave was ”A Transformed Sweden, a Transformed World” with a focus on people and nations finding their true identity and purpose in God. A Bible verse that stood out was Romans 12:2 that says:
”Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
We want to see God transform peoples hearts and as they are changed by God that they are released to change the World!
Something we believe in strongly is discipleship and community. Since the start we’ve tried to make sure that we walk closely together with everyone that joins us. To run DTS - Discipleship Training Schools has been one of the expressions of this. Since the start we’ve run many DTS´ and we love the fruit God gives through them!
Already from the start God spoke to us about pioneering in new places and in 2021 we started our first location outside of Linköping, in Stockholm. In an amazing way God opened up a house to us in the central part of Stockholm so now we are in two places! The expression we use is ”One base in two locations” and that’s how we feel. And that is how it will be as we continue to expand and pioneer in more places: one family in many places
